Does anyone know how safe a 90 Si is?  And could someone explain briefly how a seat belt works.  I've found mine only locks if I really slam on the brakes and just want to make sure it'd lock if I hit something, I've sort of had bad luck over the past two years so I think about it more then I would've then.  Thanks.

90 si's are probably the safest, with the extra weight, 4-disk brakes, etc... i have gotten out of a few close calls because the crx's stop on a dime, handle well enough to whip around a little bit and are very easy to control when you pass the edge of the tires grip...

the seat belt locks up when its pulled hard or fast...try just yanking on it real quick and it should lock up.

I try yanking on it.  The only time I've had it lock is a few times, once when I was testing em in a lot and just flooring it and nailing the brakes and one when I needed to stop on a dime.  But if I tap the brake and yank on it it doesnt

you might want to grab the seat belt off of a junkyard or someone gutting their car...or you could just try taking the door panel off and taking a look at the seat belt assembly to see if something isnt catching. i dont know much about seatbelts, but check this out:

I got rear ended by a 98 Maxima. He was doing about 60 when he hit me and I was rolling doing about 10. I'm safe and have a neck injury that could be treated (whiplash) but I hardly feel any pain. I think it's a very safe little car...not what most people would expect. The car is repairable and is being repaired :)

Alot of times the units inside the door/panel, just needs to be cleaned out.  I would just check it out see if it is dirty or what not.

ya they are safe.  I rolled my DX and I didn't get hurt at all.  Not even a scratch till I climbed out the broken window, minor scratches on my hands.  #### I have more cuts and scrapes now then I did when I rolled it.

Since we're on the topic of seatbelts, my passenger seatbelt doesn't retract. Anyone have a diagram of how to fix an 88CRX Si seatbelt? Well at least how to open up the sidepanels to be able to get to the #### retractor so I can oil it up or something. It just seems to be locked and not releasing. My dad says I can just oil it or clean it up and that will fix the permanent lock that it currently has.

Honda has a lifetime warranty on their seat belts for the 88-99 models.... i think.... just go in if you have any problems with the seatbelt and theyll fix it for free..

Honda has a lifetime guarntee on all seatbelts 88-00.  This means, if the part is faulty they will fix it.
If it is dirty, they make you pay them to clean it, I would take it in so that way you can get some free work from mechanics, thats always cool.

Seriously, the CRX is A LOT safer than many people give it credit for. Besides being able to stop on a dime, and handle nimbly enough to avoid an accident, the way these fuckers hold up in accidents, for such a small car, simply amazes me.

Went to a junkyard a few weeks ago, so a 90 Si there....
the drivers side was smacked up pretty good, I asked the guy what happened.

The CRX got T-boned by a Chrysler 300M. @ 40mph...

The driver (who happened to be the junkyard owner's nephew) only suffered minor cuts and bruises... from a big ass car hitting it pretty fast....

HA! And my parents keep telling me a to buy a newer, safer car.....

LoL.. So I took it to the dealer, (who wasn't THAT helpful) but he said if they locked if I slammed on the brakes then they'll lock if I slam into.. let's say for instance.. a huge deer (Happened before..#### virginia).
