well you have to keep in mind there are two types of timing. cam timing and ignition timing. cam is done with the cam gear(s) and the timing belt while ignition, the one your talking about, is done by rotating the distributor and a timing light.

so first thing is get a timing light.

Whatever you do, don't advance it. I'd keep it at stock until you know exactly what to do.

You need to get someone who knows how to do it, show you. You should really go to a dyno and get it properly tuned. This is not something we are going to be able to tell you, you will have to be shown.
