any car that is modified and ragged on will break

end of story

Whatever.    Just because a car is modified doesn't make it less reliable.  When done correctly, aftermarket modifications can increase reliability since most quality aftermarket parts exceed OEM specifications.

did i mention RAGGED ON i dont know of many people that break shit and will be 100% honest about how many times they did something like drive it hard while cold, go long on a oil change, bounces off the rev limiter a bunch....dumb shit..ya know....everything will eventually break..it just comes down to driver and maintenence

There is one DSM that I am hoping saves them all and that is the EVO..

Bahahahahaha.....don't get me started on this crap.

Ok, then let me correct that, "one Mitsu ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN combination to save all and I hope it is the engine/drivetrain in the EVO."

Right, because the DSM is trash except for the engine, right?  In the USCC, a 2g Eclipse setup to be a drag car (nearly 600awhp) also happened to be the fastest on the roadcourse as well.  They have flaws (just as all cars do), but if you take care to minimize those problems they are really cheap to make really fast.  'Nuff said.

The reason I don't take any of your criticism seriously is because of your extremely limited experience with them.  You never know a car like you will when you own it.  I own a DSM, I've done a ridiculous amount of research on DSM's, and thus I think my opinion is a little more informed than yours.  Take that for what you will.

I could bring someone on here that has more experience with DSMs but if he ends up supporting my views that cancels him out since he's not in support of DSMs anymore. There's nothing to argue about because apparently if someone has a good experience and someone else has a bad experience the one supporting the good is always right. What a waste of time. Someone lock this thread already or delete it?

Listen, if you're tired of arguing, stop replying.  No one's forcing you to continue reading this.  What I take offense to is your broad generalizations.  I have no problem with your friend coming on here saying his DSM sucked balls.  I can't say it didn't.  But when you say things like "all DSM's do this" or something to that effect, back it up with more than "my friend's car" stories, k?  Anecdotes do not constitute trends.

How about even in the February 2004 issue of Sport Compact Car Where Rich got rid of his dsm because...and I quote....

"I was sick and tired of all the problems I was having with my DSM cars"  he says. "If I wasn't breaking trannies or burning up clutches, my crank was walking. Finally about two years ago I decided to sell my two DSMs and find a more reliable Platform"

Page 85 SCC's Ultimate Street Car Challenge 3

but wait, that's not enough either. Seems as though he must be generalizing as he owned TWO dsms and sold them both due to the problems I mentioned of which the people I spoke to were having the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS.

He must have had a shitty second gen and sucked at building cars. Also, that's a magazine, do you honestly believe everything they write?

Do you know what the meaning of anecdote is?  If he was burning up clutches, he probably didn't machine the step height on the flywheel correctly or had the clutch poorly adjusted or was just fucking retarded and thought a 5K dump on an AWD transmission isn't going to fuck shit up.  If he was experiencing crankwalk (which is a grossly overblown problem), he should've swapped a 6 bolt motor or upgraded the 7 bolt with 1g oil squirters so he wasn't starving the thrust bearing for oil.

Like I said, there are problems with these cars, but there's also a HUGE community dedicated to going fast who've already broken everything there is to be broken and found a way to improve it.  If you can't/won't/don't want to be bothered with remedying a car's weaknesses, don't modify it.  There are people running 8's and 9's that are still street driven (very few, but it's a testament to the platform when done right).  That's weak?  Wierd.

Not to mention a TON in the 12's that run just fine when maintained like any other 12 second car, which is to say religiously.  With a $500 turbo, $500 FMIC, boost controller, various 2g bits and a 3" exhaust, you've got a 12 second car.  Pretty fucking cheap in the grand scheme of things.
