i was out all night and i realized that every road/highway i was on was straight and flat as hell, and there was NO traffic....i plugged in my Gtech and must have run 15 times with it. i've never really drag raced this car (and it's a hell of a lot different than my Si) so i was having a bitch of a time getting the launches consistent at all (not to mention being stopped on a highway w/ 70mph speed limits is sort of disconcerting). -when I was launching at like 2000-2500 rpms the tires grabbed well but i was way below the power band and i was running high 14's/low 15's -when i launched at like 3500rpms and slid the clutch more the tires spun a lot more but i was still running high 14's -a handful of times i was spunning the tires all the way through first gear and still running high 14's, but when i launched high and kept the tires from spinning i was running low 15s -a few runs i ran 14.4's-14.6's @ like 103-106mph so i know i can drop the times a bit more by getting the launch down To those of you who drag race a lot - what rpms are you launching at and how much do you slide the clutch out? Best run: 14.41 @ 106.5mph (gtech) Car: 1988 crx dx - full interior, stereo, full tank of gas and some extra junk and tools in the back Mods: B18a1 w/200,000+ miles, DC sports exhaust and K&N filter on the stock air tubing.

HAHAHA drag racing tips from matt
but what you have to remember is that every set of tires is different. some need to be heated to get the best grip and some are best when cold. Most R compounds are best when heated so make sure to spin the tires a little to get them warm, and make sure you get both wheels spinning which can be hard when your just peg leggin. now as far as the actual launch it has to do with what your clutch and pressure plate setup is. the ideal launch is just dumping the clutch and let the tires and clutch grab and go with little or no wheel spin. but with stock clutches the inital dumping of the clutch can be too much torque and thus creates slipping. if your clutch is harsh then just find the rpm that you can dump the clutch and get no wheel spin. but if you have a stock clutch then you have to find the happy medium where you get little wheel spin and clutch slipage.
and to think some people though drag racing was as easy as just dumping the clutch and then shifting.

but what you have to remember is that every set of tires is different. some need to be heated to get the best grip and some are best when cold. my thoughts exactly....hey matt, how fast is your Zc? my tires are some weird brand i've never heard of - the ones i got stuck with from some truck repair shop in no mans land SC after my azenis blew out on me 625 miles from home and 650 miles from my friends and family... sharkey, those traps speeds are hella fast..... like 13s! lol sweet.... freaky isn't it? thats why i made sure to say it was GTech..it blew my mind when i was getting those kind of times/speeds. i think thats why i ran it so many times i never would have guessed anything below low 15's before last night. oh and car market not good right now?!? just keep in mind - nissan sentra, nissan sentra! the car markets has been bad for years in my case

That's a little too fast for a CRX w/LS motor. When I had my CRX w/b16 I launched at 4500-5000 and feathered like a mofo. I had an ACT 6 puck though. It really depends on your setup. Now I get wild wheel spin even if I launched at 1krpm. :?

That's a little too fast for a CRX w/LS motor. yeah, come to think of it, i was pretty tired last night....maybe it was all just a dream. Red- your tires will be gone and those rims are getting good rubber. also - what i was doing last night was launching and racing...what we were doing that weekend at my house was desperate stopping on a curvy/hilly road so we could zero out the gtech and then just running like hell while you took off after us and followed. plus,. isn;t your ZC slower than your stock motor was anyway?

keith and i ran my dx with his gtech (so it's not that my gtech is broken or anything, haha) and we were running high 15's with low/mid 90mph trap speeds...
i guess i'll just have to take it to a drag strip and get some real runs in to see...or i could just say fuck it and stop caring about the dx since it's just my beater anyway, and the next time i get pulled over i would probably end up in jail, so i'm probably better off not doing stupid things anymore :drivingskid:
