Hello everyone, new member as of today.
I am thinking about buying '90 crx si and was thinking about puting a rotary in it. I heard of people puting rotary's in the civic's but not any crx's. If any of you guys have any information on this please let me know.
And also what do u guys think about a rotary conversion in a CRX.

im curious as to why you would want to do that. for the amount of money needed to custom mount the majority of the engine parts for the 13b you can do another kind of swap.

I love crx's but these cars are very underpowered. I know of all the different types of swaps that other people usually opt for, so doing a 13b swap seems like unchartered territory, if not unchartered then a less traveled one. I heard of people spending close 4 to 5g's (including motor) and sometimes even more to swap in some of those vtec motors. The rotary i want to get is the non-turbo because the engine bay in the crx is not big enough to house the turbo version. I am just shopping at the moment, nothing really serious yet. I am definetly picking up the si and then take it from there. So for now I am just trying to get input from other members.

the 13b is definally the less traveled way. its going to take some serious work to get it to work correctly as i would assume you would convert the CRX into RWD. would be a fun little project but the only downside is that if something breaks your going to have to make a custom part everytime and that can become a huge drawback. also make sure to place some good heating reduction fibers in there to help eliminate any negative efect on the car chassis from the abnormally higher running temps of rotary

I wanted to do a rotary swap on my crx back in 1999, but the cost for the conversion was pretty high. Not only that, the car frame has to be mangled up since you would also have to do rear wheel drive conversion. The rotary swap sounds fantastic but you have to sacrifice a lot of the car.
Stick to vtec, what honda's are known for.

Anyone paying more than 1k for a B16 swap or more than 1500-2000 for a GSR swap is getting shafted. For the money you're gonna spend on the custom fabrication for the rotary engine install, you can do a number of things. You can probably buy a LS or B20, do some nice work to it and turbo it. Turbo D series works nicely as well. Also, aren't those motors for RWD cars?

WTF??? a rotary in a rex? Wankel is gonna kick your arse if he's alive.
Anything is possible if you gotz the dough. I have dreamed about a 4g63T in a rex. AWD drivetrain, AWD steering from a Lude. I have the engine and tranny and it's easy to get a shell, but the amount of work it will take is more than what I'm willing to invest.

I think he was planning on trying to keep it fwd, which he would run into the problem of having 1 forward gear and five reverses if he tried to keep the stock tranny. In all honesty, if you plan on converting to RWD not only will you run into drive train modifications, you will also have to fabricate an entire new rear suspension, sort out engine management, redesigning the engine bay. In other words anything is possible with enough money. But one must ask is it still a CRX? Is it even worth it? If you like rotarys so much, don't waste your money on a CRX. Buy an RX-7. I think the stories you are hearing about Civic owners doing this swap are tall tales. Did you hear the one about the 2JZGTE being a bolt in swap for an EG? If you believe that I'll tell you another one...
