First off you're only going to need 6 tools to do the swap. You're going to need a 10mm socket, 12mm wrench, 14mm socket, a phillips head screwdriver, Jack, and Jack stand. You should change out the alternator belt as well, since it will need to be taken off. Disconnect the negative battery terminal with the 10mm socket. Jack Up the Front Driver's side, and put a jack stand in to hold up the car. Remove the dust sheild from behind the driver's side tire. Then you need to use the 12mm wrench to loosen, and remove the top alternator bolt. Pull the alternator towards the front of the car, and remove the alternator belt. Use the 10mm socket to remove the harness wire from the top of the alternator. Use the 14mm to remove the bottom alternator bolt from the bracket. At this point you should be able to remove the alternator from the brackets. It may be stuck in because of dirt and grease, so you may need to pry it out of the bottom bracket. Try rocking it back and forth from the top, this should loosen it up to be able to take out of the bottom bracket. Now the tricky part: The alternator is not going to just come out of the bottom easily. You're going to have to turn, and move it around until it comes out. It takes a few minutes, but just remember that its not that fragile of a piece, especially if you're removing a bad one. Pay attention to how it drops out the bottom, and put the new one in reverse of the way the old one comes out. Dropping the alternator out the bottom may take some manuevering around, but it will come out. I've swapped my alternator 3 times, and all three times I've pulled it out the bottom. Installation is reverse of removal. Get the alternator into the bottom bracket, then bolt up the alternator. Make sure you leave loose so it can be moved back and forth when installing the new alternator belt. Then put the top bolt in, and keep the top bolt loose as well. Install the alternator belt, and move the top of the alternator towards the rear of the car, until the belt is tight enough, but does not have a lot of play. Tighten down the top alternator bolt. Tighten the bottom alternator bolt. Then put the harness back on, being sure not to cross thread the bolt. Reattach the negative battery terminal. Start your car
