Parts:
New Exhuast Piping
New Gaskets

Recommended or just in case:
Might need new bolts, they can break!
Hangers in case

1.  First soak all bolts in WD-40 or liquid wrench or something along those lines.  Because if you  car for say is a 91 then those bolts have been there for 10 years!
2.  Start loosening all the bolts.  This may take a breaker bar and possibly air tools.  I think a breaker bar should do fine though.
3.  Once all the bolts are loosened work from the back to the front taking off the old exhaust.  This involves taking it down from the hangers and taking it the rest of the way off.
4.  At this point you should have nothing behind the catilytic converter.
5.  From the front back start putting it back together.  Remember all your gaskets.  Some exausts come with gaket putty to put on the gaskets.  This is optional but I recommend it.  Its fun too.
6.  Once its all put back together turn on the car while it is still on the stand/lift.  Start looking for any kind of exhaust leaks.  Fix them while you are already wokring on it rahter than later.  To check, put hands around any parts in which there may be a leak and just feel for oddly warm air.
7.  If everything is OK Yell "Look Ma, I got me a loud car"

Ok it is easyer to take it off from the front of the cat where the cat meets the downpipe, and then get a decent size breaker bar and take off the cat (this leaves the best chance to hollow out the cat, which is highly illegal) I've found that it is much easyer to get the front bolts off than it is the back ones on the cat.  Of course if you have an impact, use it, using breaker bars leaves the chance of the bolt snapping alot easyer than if you use an impact.
