MATERIALS i used:
-flat screwdriver (a big on and a small one just in case) -star screw driver (one long magnetic one, and a short stubby one) -needle nose pliars -kitchen knife -twist tie -2 differnent size ratchets -about 10 different sockets -vise grips -hammer? (not today, required for most other jobs though)
for some of the weirder tools used, dont ask how i used them, look how long this took me to write a how to on taking a bumper off, you want me yo friggen describe how i used each tool too??
ok, to take the bumper off first you gotta take your corner lights out, you just break the twist tie or unscrew the bolt holding them in place and then pull the tabs out of place and there ya go, you can disconnect the lights, but personally im a lazy bastard so i just layed them inside the engine bay still connected (dangling)...(you do this for both corner lights).. and then you will see under the corner light on top of the bumper there is a screw, just take her out and put it to the side. next you will have to take out any screws on the fender part of the bumper (you need a small screwdriver to get in between the tire and the bumper.) there is usually 2 or three screws on each side, but my car had one on each side so it was easy for me... next look underneith the bumper to see if you can find any screws holding the bumper in place (once again i only had one, it was right in the middle). after your done that take a star screw driver and take out the two screws on each of the bumper lenses, and then pull the light out and take the bulb out of the lense and tuck it inside the bumper a bit so you can take the bumper off without breaking anything... put the bumper lens to the side. (do for both corner lights).......next step is to take out the three screws bolting the bumper to the car in between the 2 headlights (they are a bitch, cause you gotta get in under that crossmember or whatever the fuck it is). and after you get thoes three screws from #### out, then pull each side of the bumper off the car and then pull from the center of the bumper and haul that baby offa there.
that it for that very informative how-to which im sure everyone knows how to do and it will just make me look like an idiot and probably did some of it wrong or ghetto, but hey, my bumper came off and thats all i am worried about. and of coarse do everything in reverse order to put the bumper back on!
after you get the bumper off you will see a chubby little black box (mine had some red overspray), anyway, you look at that box, and you THINK it would be easy to rip out but it wasnt (for me)
there is this bolt you gotta take out, i dont friggen know what size thing you need to take out the bolt, just try a few.... anyway, its in between the airbox and the frame of the bumper or whatever the funk you call it, you gotta be standing on the side of the car (facing sideways) and youll see it, its friggen hard to get to, i wont get into what i used to get it out, just refer to my materials section and you will know why. so ya, i got that friggen bolt out and the airbox seemed pretty loose, so i fiddled with it and tried to wiggle her out, but had no luck. and then with some hard looking (and pulling) i discover that there is ANOTHER bolt, but this one is behind the airbox on the other side (impossible for me to get to) so i grabbed hold of it and just took a few good yanks and bam, busted that mofo right outta there!
im really not sure if that is even called an air box or if its called a resonator or what, or what the point of taking it out is (or if it is ok to remove). but i did it so there.
not sure if this how-to has been mentioned yet, but i figured i would share my side of the story and at the same time contrubute to the how to fourm even though i dont know how to do anything mechanically.
***any harm done to your car as a result of following my instructions is not my fault***
