Okay, I bought my car and it had an exhaust on it already, I don't know about the pipes but I know the muffler/tip/whatever the fuck that is I'm ignorant is 3A racing. Anyway, it sounds like shit to me now, I used to like it but now I feel it's just too loud. It's so loud it has that scratchyness to it. I want to make it sound different, not softer but just lower and smoother. I don't want to buy the whole exhaust so if can someone refer me to a new muffler or something that sounds good that'd be great. Otherwise make suggestions. Not sure how big the pipes are, I can find out later I guess. Thanks for the help :stupid:

If you go to a muffler shop, they sell resonaters that will quiet it down some. If you don't like the way the tip/muffler looks, you can get an axel back system that bolts on or just have a shop weld on like a universal muffler and what ever tip you want, or one of the bomb style mufflers that have the tip on the muffler in one piece. Good luck.

I wouldn't suggest the glass pack if you plan on having on for a while. The things are cheap and fall apart after a while.

Ha ha you want your crx to sound better? Put a V-Tec in it. All Honda non V-Tec's sound like yours it's just the price we have to pay for a high flow exhaust. Have you ever heard a non V-Tec Honda that you really liked? I have a 2 1/4 inch exhaust with a high flow cat and straight through muffler and its not very loud not sure why yours would be? Good Luck

Dunno either, it's just really loud but it's not a crisp noise like I like. It's not really low it's more of a medium pitch.

You're stoned. How in the hell will a VTEC (not V-tec) engine make a difference in the sound of an exhaust until you hit the second lobes? Take the d16a6 and d16z6 for example. They're the same engine (well, almost) except for the head. Put one of those in a CRX and until you hit VTEC (not VTECK, V-teckhkgy or VLKASDTLKJ) it'll sound exactly the same. Then when you switch over, it'll be even more harsh, more rough and even more annoying. As far as a cheap way to quiet your exhaust down, a silencer is a good cheap way to do it. Dont' get a glasspack as someone already said. They break. You could just have a new muffler welded on. I new Fagmaster muffler cost me $100 installed. If you want to change the tip, it'll cost you a little more though.

personally, I think my silencer sounded like crap when it was on my car... Do you have an intake on the car? I found my car quite a bit better when I finally got an intake on it...

Yeah, I've got an intake. I don't necessarily want it softer, just maybe lower or crisper.

I got str8 pipe and cherry bomb glasspack. very raunchy. its kewl at some times but reallly announces my presence. nice as i dont sound like all the other rice out there though. and it is funny to set off car alarms. i got it down too, so i go down a section of parked cars at school and set off at least 5 alarms. lol. and my silencer is my left foot.

You're stoned. How in the hell will a VTEC (not V-tec) engine make a difference in the sound of an exhaust until you hit the second lobes? You obviously haven't heard one. It makes a huge difference. I installed all of my exhaust mods except for the header for obvious reasons about a week before I swapped engines and there is such a huge difference. The B16 pushes WAY more air than one of those little D series and you can hear that shit. But word, it's fucking VTEC. :baa:

I took two engines, the d16a6 and the d16z6 and compared them. My point in that VTEC makes a car even louder when on the bigger lobes. The sound is even more raspy and annoying. A B16 does have a different sound to it, no shit. I don't think it sounds any "better" than a d series but that's preference. It does flow more air, yes. The exhuast gases are also spent out faster. So when a DOHC 1.6 VTEC hits the big cam, it's even "worse" as far as harshness goes. And don't sit there and tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about or I haven't "heard [a B16a]" I worked at Acura for a year, worked at Honda for six months, I've owned two Hondas plus I've driven just about every H/A product modified or not that's been produced in the past 15 years. That includes The ITR, NSX, S2000. Plus the sixth gen Si and del sol VTEC (both with B16a). I would be willing to say that I know quite a bit about Hondas/Acuras.

Point out where I brought up the bad ass ITRs or S2000s that roll through ANY Honda lot/Performance shop or how I said you don't know anything about H cars or moding them. "Nope, I didn't." I just assumed that he was refering to the B16 as "a V-tec" becaue a SOHC VTEC in a CRX is no big deal. Most people who say they want to swap a VTEC in their car don't dream of a single cam engine. And as a side note, to save future bitching from you or anyone else, I realize all people don't want or can't afford a B16. If you ask a majority of people who say "I want VTEC in my CRX," they're refering to a DOHC VTEC. for people here and anywhere else who build SOHC to be as fast or faster than DOHCs, mad props. A fast car is a fast car.
