my best friend is looking to put a new head unit and two 6.5's and two 6x9's into his 98 civic lx.

he wants an cd/mp3 player, and i dont know much about head units. i also am interested in buying an mp3 player since  my radio in my dx might not be fixable.

can anyone reccomend any mp3 players? how about speakers in the two sizes i mentioned?

price is an issue, but so is quality. so we're not looking for the cheapest, but not the most expensive parts in the world either :)

douche-bag! Ok first off, I have a head unit I'll sell ya pretty cheap. Motorized faceplate cd player, it's nice. You can get some nice 6.5 pioneer 3 ways for like 110$ as for 6x9's cerwin vegas are nice...they're like 160$ though (i think)

personally i stick with kenwood. the excelon 6.5 (170) are good as ####. but cerwin vega, rockford fosgate, boston acoustics, they all make kick ass speakers, it just depends on the $$$ you wanna spend.

if you need any help installing the shit, i can do it. i just installed an El Kameleon head unit this weekend. Piece of cake.

yeah, im fine with the install, but thanks for the offer...maybe what you can do is just come hang out, smoke some stinky greens and laugh as i put it all in :)

if i get another head unit, im DEFINITELY getting one with an mp3 decoder...being able to use my disks of mp3's in my car would be the pimpest thing since Superfly. i have probably 4-5000 mp3's ripped onto disks.

how much are you looking to get for the head unit though? what kind is it? i have another friend who's looking for stereo equipment on a budget. i'll check with him and see what he thinks.

are kenwood speakers really good? i never owned any kenwood stereo equipment...

OK, when you say MP3 player, do you mean a cd player that plays MP3s or an actual MP3 player that has its own hard drive?  If you mean a cd player, ####, everyone has them now.  My favorite is the JVC with the brushed alluminum face, the KD-SH77 I think.  It's 跾 I think.  If you want an actual MP3 player, the Neo-35 is SWEET!  The price keeps changing on it but last I checked, it was about 跌 without a hard drive.  I'm still working on that #### '99 Stang with the Neo in it.  You can either use it alone and buy a 4 channel amp (you can even but an AM/FM tuner to go along with it) or get a head unit that has AUX imputs and plug it up that way.  Well shit, my manager keeps telling me to get off the computer.  I'll find the website again and get back to you on the Neo.

no, im looking for a cd player which can read mp3 files on a CDR or CD-RW disk...that  way i can throw 150 songs onto a cd (as mp3 files) and play them in the car.

that JVC you described plays cdr's and cdrw's, but it doesnt say it will decode mp3 files on those disks...so i could rip disks as "wav" files and put 15-17 songs on a disk, but cant leave them as .mp3 files...

i
do like the way that one looks though...its purdy: http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin....ay=L

i kind of like this unit, but im not fond of the face: http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin....=0

it
has the features we're looking for though...

this shit is real nice too.... http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin....a=

the inifinty components are probally your best bang for the buck, for the 6x9 i would hit up cerwin-vega or some rockford fosgates. just make sure you stay far from sony, the stuff is great for like a month and then its all crap.

ok cumbubble....... i play my burnt CDs on my head unit and they work, so any new one should do it. like 150 for my old one i got it for 245 last year.  maybe 125, we'll see, but its in good shape.  OR is can get you a good deal on a JVC El Kameleon lx-330 (i think) it's the good one, has a sub- output, front, rear RCA's.... it's purty too :)

ya man, any fucking cd player now should read ripped cd's in wav format. Mine does, you just have to use cd's that are decent. I use the maxell ones and they work fine. But fujis skip. As well, most of my stereo is kenwood, it's good quality, decent price. Right in the middle. However, #### do I ever love boston acustics. :)

haha, i feel like im describing this to women :)

even my current cd player plays ripped CD's, im looking for a head unit which will play Mp3 files on a ripped cd...not a hard drive, not a cd player, but a cdplayer with an MP3 decoder so i can put in a disk of 150+ mp3's (as MP3 files) and play them on my radio.

Ya, I knew that, I just had no idea that shit existed. I was just re-stating the fact the you can play wav files trying to make myself sound smart. Plus, I like the word ripped, It's kinda on the same level as "laying frame" for me. Umm, I just basically wanted to give you a brief review of kenwood, dood, I'm bored, what the fuck is up with sho?!?!?

An mp3/cd player would be super cool.
