I have a 89 DX and I want to go faster Smiley
I don't want to spend much money Sad
What am I gonna do?
Most of you, I'm sure, are going to tell me to go ZC.  But I am extremely tight on money.  I just put my tokico shocks and GC coilovers on and put a new clutch in.  I owe about $370 and people owe me about $400.  I need a plan for this summer.  I am really liking the D16Z6 idea, the SOHC VTEC d16 out of delsols and stuff.  I should be able to find one in a junkyard in the area and maybe rebuild it (any ideas what cost would be, $500 for motor and rebuild?), whereas a ZC, I can't really ($600 shipped, little more?).
I don't want to go with a b series because I'm looking for a cheap swap.
What parts are needed to go from a DX tranny to Si tranny or the other trannies?  nothing? axles?
Does a D16Z6 look a lot like a DX D15 (I've seen a couple, but my memory is not very good)?  Was thinking sleeper even under the hood Smiley
Will headers convert from one to other?
Also was thinking staying with D15 til next year or so when my financial situation is better (which is probably what will happen, but I'm just figuring out a plan)

On your money situation maybe a mini me?  You would need an SI computer, RPM Activated switch/VTEC controller, one of those, and the SOHC VTEC Head.  And you can swap  that to your DX block.  Then you would have to wire up VTEC, and the MPFI from DPFI.  That you could probably do for about 300-400 bucks.  Or you can buy a ZC.  Those would be the only choices I would consider if I were you.  Or maybe just swap an MPFI setup on for now.  It will pull good, like an SI, and you can get the Intake manifold and all for probably 50 bucks, and I will sell you my SI ecu if you want.  Dont do a rebuild, they cost more than they are worth.

And as to your question about trannies..  90-91 DX/SI trannies convert over perfect, clutch assemblies, etc.  I think SI trannies use an intermediate shaft, so..  But if you do Mini me or ZC you can use your DX tranny.  Headers will work fine, if you go  ZC you will need to port out the DX manifold.  I think that answers your questions..

minime sounds good
but is it the kind of thing that I could do myself...  I can do alot of work on my car, but I am not really engine inclined.  I know a semifair amount about engines, but have never done any real work with the engine itself.
Is it a reliable setup?  Is the wiring difficult (no clue what wiring VTEC would entale)?
It seems like it would be fairly simple, but maybe something I should consider a bit and make sure I have enough money incase I screw up and a ride incase it takes me a while.
btw, how much do Si blocks and trannies run?  (might be nice if I end up with a little more money Smiley )
