Just wanted to throw out a little something that you (velocity) might appreciate or even know. CottageCreep mentions the aerodynamics and they are good... I agree I think they are great for a late 80's car when they were all still box, this was (in my opinion) on of the first of the aerodynamic hatch backs (NOT BUBBLE ASSES for you "hatch" owners) he also says the car gets very unstable at 120. Though I have never had the privilage to drive a rex to 120 I know that DSM's have some incredible aerodynamics and downforce. At 75-90 the car gets very shakey... for a dsm, most likely not quite as shaky as a ligh rex though... but right after 100 the downforce kicks in and the car gets rock solid as it gets pushed to the ground. Its quite a cool feeling. To bad all the downforce limits the top speed of the car

i wasn't aruging saying crx's aren't areodynamic, because as far as their weight concerned they can hold the shit down, in the front, i think for my rex's barely weighing in over a ton they were very nice, i buried the speedo a few times and just watched the tach climb slowly there after, but if you wanna hit speeds of an excess of 140 that's where i'd move on to another car.

Yeah, exactley, and weight isn't really the issue either, just look at F1 cars. Super light, super high HP, and super high downforce. I forget at which speed this happens, I think its at 100mph (maybe more), they create enough downforce that if they could turn upside down in a tunnel, they could stick to the cealing. Maybe we should all get a big fricking wing eh....hahaha. 100mph is enough for me, I never really want to go faster than that anyways.

yea i did that with my 60's VW van... man it was cool... that thing is so aerodynamic it just stuck like glue to all walls and ceilings at any speed over 20 ... sooo much downforce....

Fireburds suuuckk.... in my humble opinion of coarse I love to race them on the high way. Easy kills except the rare Trans Am those can be tuff. But usually their drivers suck, as with most (new)corvette owners because they are all old and no fun and their wrinkly balls droop on the brakes me thinks...
- hrmm after i posted i realized it had nothing to do with the thread topic so ignore this, eh? -

i know right now, in what condition my car is in it is pretty unsafe. at 120mph no car is really safe. once suspension, tires go in, maybe even some body work,it might be kinda safe-r

WHOA there buddy! I leave the board for a month and people are talking about going 120 on the interstate!?!?!!??
That's just a little bit crazy there bud. I know speed is fun but it's also incredibly dangerous especially on public roads. I've had over 10 friends die because they or soneone else was speeding. That's 10 more people to go out and party with that won't be around because they wanted to see how fast their car was. Not worth it at all in my opinion.
Now that the lesson is over, if you find a TRACK to race on, do what's already been said, new ECU or a chip. Also, you better get some tires that are AT LEAST H rated if you're going that fast. I know H and Z rated tires can be drivin much faster than 120 but I think a little margin for safety is important.
Have as much fun as you can but please be safe.

Have as much fun as you can but please be safe. yeah the whole reason i quit streetracing was because a friend of a friend had a mr2 and he was running a wrx, and it was close so neither of them gave up, they ended up taking past the quarter mark and were going around 110-120 they said, and they went around a corner and the mr2 oversteered right into a telephone pole and my friend saw the emts remove his head fromt he car first and threw it in a bag, and that's all i needed to hear.. i'm going to race soloII after i get outta my airforce bullshit next summer

what motor is the ys1 in? Or better yet, what do you redline at? Also, what size tires do you have? I have a ys1 and have a b18b with stock internals and valvetrain, so I rev to 6800 and my pr4 cuts out religiously at that point. Anyway, in 5th gear with 195/60r14s i am doing shy over 120 at 6800 rpms boucning off the rev limiter with ease. I can check out this tranny calculator, but even if you redline at 8 or so depending on tire size i doubt youd get much farther than 140. Prob. the JDM speed governor. Yea, i wouldnt do past 120 unless you got full suspension, tires, and a roll cage. And I still wouldnt condone it for the highway. Just too many freaking risks, no matter what you drive. But I know that wont stop everyone, hell I still like to let it loose occasionaly on the highway, I just try to save it for when no one is around. Buddy of mine has a 89 hf with full suspension and b20vtec and his car looks like its gonna float off the road at around 130. He's pushed it close to 150 and said it got downright scary. Just some food for thought
