Yeah so I've been looking around for fast crx's in Colorado and I was told about an all motor 1.8 n/vtec that wraps up to 10 grand!  :0  What do you have to do internally to achieve that?  I want my motor to handle that kind of rotation when I build it up.  I must find this car, has anyone else heard of such a machine?

if you want to rev to 10,000 reliably you would probably have to replace every internal part in your engine  especially the valve train and you would have to upgrade your ignition system to something that has that kind of rpm capabilities
so you can imagine how much it would cost to build a car like this. You would have to buy a lot of dyno time to tune a car like that too
This is why you don't see a lot of cars revving that high
it costs too much to build and they don't really make for the fastest cars out there either.
Team L'Natural shifts at 8100rpm and look at their car
You can definately build a better powerplant for yourself if you put some boost to a lower revving engine.

yeah but not everybody WANTS to go FI...

for myself, I dunno yet... don't have the money to do the building thing, but when I get to that point... Maybe I'll be doing the 10k rpm myself... simply because it's (in my mind) a cooler thing to achieve...

besides... getting high boost into a rex is nice for dragging, but I'm more of a hnadling-kinda-guy...

think of this: you're in a corner, tyres already squeecking a bit... you're on the edge... then you're turbo has a power spike...

I don't have to remind any of you that a crx, if you're not completely at one with the car, is a riding coffin!!!!

I've seen to many incidents involving rexes to ignore that...

(although I can do just about anything with my car, I'm man enough to admit that I do not yet fully know and use it to the max... sooooooo.....)

but hey... we're telking about 10k rpm now Cheesy

yeah a 10k redline sounds pretty cool but i dont think its worth it either. i mean you should can get a 8200 and you should be happy with that!but yeah it does sound cool and you would have the bragging rights or a 10k engine...

its pointless to rev higher than your power band indicates...ie, if you're not making more power at 10,000 than you dont want to be revving that high. The cams will big a be factor in how high in the rpm range you're making power, and the valvetrain needs to be strong enough to hold the valves in without having them float at such high rpms. the retainers and valve springs should match the camshafts that you use.

i was going to build my b16 to make power up to the 10,200 range, but money is a huge problem when doing that kind of building, and also, when you have a motor that race prepped it requires a lot more maintenance and a hell of a lot of tuning.

honestly, i dont know how a non vtec motor is making power that high in the rpm range...it certainly cannot be streetable if it is true..if you do want a high revving engine, it is probably a lot more useful on the road course (mostly because most of the companies that make cams with that type of profile design them for road course racing. toda, jun, and even the ITR/CTR cams are not meant for pure straight line acceleration) obviously, even if its meant for a road course, that doesnt mean it still wont be fast in the 1/4

for me, i went for being commited to TODA spec B's then down to spec a's because the engine requires a lot less work to support them, and finally considering just using the ITR/CTR cams because of the really low cost and ease of building with them. they will make a good deal more power at higher rpms without revving to the sky and requiring a ton of attention.

What about the s2k? i know for sure it revs higher than 8k... i think it hits the 9's? but then again, that engine was ment for high revs.
